Collection of CAD projects

Computer-aided design was one of my first introductions to the world of engineering. It is a great and fun skill to have. This is a collection of some of the designs that I have done!
I feel like there is a way to use CAD in a pun, but I would need a decade to think of one.

Background: These are some of my projects that I designed myself and, for some of the, printed and am using now! There are two main types. The first one are designs that I thought about from scratch, designed and printed. The second one are mastery assignments from my Medical Device Design Class where we would receive the mechanical drawing and had to design and create its mechanical drawing as well.

Personal Designs

Pencil Holder

Problem Statement: In my apartment, we try to keep a shopping list on the fridge, but we usually either lost the pen we use or take it from the kitchen because there is no natural place to put.

Solution: I designed this simple pencil holder and glued magnets to its back so we can put it on the fridge and never need to worry about that anymore.

Proximity Glove

Problem Statement: I really like designing projects with a goal to help disabled people. For this project, I wanted to create a wearable that would fit as a glove or attachable to the hand, and bip louder if the person's hand is close to touching something. Like a proximity sensor when I car is backing up. I wanted to work with ultrasonic sensors, so this was a way to make something out of it.

Solution: Since I want to finish other projects that I have been working on first, this one is in the vault for now. But here is a design I made of the first version of the wrist attachment. It is still very raw and needs to be polished, but I think it is a good start.

Phone Hanger

Problem Statement: This one might be weird, but whenever I am doing the dishes, it is very hard to talk with family or watch something to try to make it a productive time (besides of course cleaning my sink haha). It is hard because the water is loud and there is no place to my phone.

Solution: So I made this! It has two sizes to fit different phones and it attaches to the cabinet in front of me that usually is not opened while I am washing the dishes.

Remote Holder

Problem Statement: For some reason, my wife and I frequently lose the remote control of the TV in our bedroom. Since we don't have much space, our small nightstands are usually already full of things, such as a lamp, our phones, and one or two other things. When we put the remote there, it is usually is hit by something and disappears. Or when we just leave it on the bed, it also just disappears.

Solution: So I wanted to design a designated spot for it. Since we don't have much space, I needed to find an efficient spot that wouldn't interfere with the rest. So here is my idea! It actually worked out pretty well and now we lose the control much less frequently.

Surprise Box

Problem Statement: For my dad's birthday, my sisters and I wanted to buy my parents tickets for a Coldplay concert. However, we wanted to have a nice presentation for them. So I stepped up to design it!

Solution: This is a simple box with the top lid inspired by Coldplay's tour name and theme, and the bottom part saying a message in Portuguese: "Your kids love you! Enjoy it!".

Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture of the final product assembled, but he really enjoyed!!

Mastery Assignments

Hybrid Neck

Overview: This project is inspired by the design from one of the BME labs at Duke to simulate a 6-year-old neck in crash tests. This allows researchers to design safer products, such as cars and other moving systems.

Takeaway: I love doing these designs, especially to solve problems in the day-to-day of my family and I. It makes me fall in love even more with design and engineering, and I will certainly keep this mindset for all of my life.
